Thirsk - our "Home Town"

Thirsk town center
This is the center of Thirsk, in the heart of Herriot country.
All Saints Church - Thirsk
We went to services in this beautiful church.
Herriot Museum
James Herriot practiced veterinary medicine in Thirsk. This picture was taken at the Herriot museum. People who watched the show will recognize the car! Here's some information on the museum. Herriot museum
Sutton Hall - where we stayed
Sutton Hall is a beautiful timeshare, built from an old manor house. We felt like British gentry living here. If your would like to stay here yourself, click here: Sutton Hall

Scenes From York

York Castle
Much to our disappointment, we got to the top of the castle steps just in time to be told the castle was closing to visitors. The view from up there was spectacular, which made up for the disappointment.
York Minster
I spent a lot of time wandering in this beautiful old church, and took tons of pictures. This is one.
Rose Window - York Minster
York Minster has a lot of beautiful stained glass, but this window is unique. My picture does not do it justice. Next time, I'll buy a better camera first. Here's a picture from the outside of the church that someone else took. York Minster Rose Window
Me - in the Shambles, York
Here I am standing in the Shambles, one of York's oldest streets, with fascinating shops and a colorful history. Here's a snippet: "Mentioned in the Domesday book (making it date over 900 years), we know Shambles to be York 's oldest street, and Europe's best preserved Medieval street."
