Name of Business:

Dreams and Whimsy

Purpose:

Market for gently used Books of fantasy, science fiction, mystery and horror.

Mission Statement:

"Dreams and Whimsy" is a place where the lover of the fantastic in all its aspects can find new treasures or become reacquainted with old favorites in the Fantasy/SF/Mystery/Horror genres. It will provide a pleasant place to browse, read reviews, chat with like-minded folk, and purchase books at an economical price.

Products and Services:

Book reviews and discussion boards will be provided free of charge. Books will be listed at half the cover price for Very Good or Excellent condition. The store will generally not carry books in less than "very good" condition. Exceptions will be made for rare and/or collectible books, which will be located in a special area of the store - i.e. a special web page "gate", with a "Rare and Collectible" page for each genre.

Target Audience:

While the genres on this web site appeal to all ages, the target audience will be from teens to infinity. The site will cater to people who are familiar with the genres and know the authors they like. This is not intended as a site for new-comers to this type of reading matter. The site will carry young adult and adult fiction only - no children's books will be carried. Occassional non-fictions works relevant to the genre, such as author biographies, may be carried if there is market demand. This information will be solicited in bulletin board threads.

Site Features:

The site will use book jacket and similar illustrations to add color and interest to the pages. Where appropriate, author photos, and even author interviews may appear as "special features" on the review pages. Authors will be invited and encouraged to participate in bulletin board discussions, and to promote their new works. While the site features used books, links may be provided to new book sellers such as Amazon, to help promote new publications. Used books were new once!

Site Development:

The site developer will adhere to accessibility standards so that the site continues to work with older or non-standard browsers whereever possible. Web code will follow XHTML and use white space liberally to improve readability. Every effort will be made to simplify site maintenance. The site will use tables to help organize data where appropriate, to achieve a newspaper column effect.
